Eugenol is an aromatic phenolic compound commonly found in clove essential oil (Syzygium
aromaticum). It exhibits various biological activities, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Due to these characteristics, eugenol is widely used in cosmetics, medicine, and the pharmaceutical field. In organic chemistry, eugenol is of particular interest because its reactive structure allows for modification into derivative compounds with potential therapeutic benefits. This activity aims to educate teenagers about the diverse benefits of the chemical compound eugenol, which is abundantly found in plants such as cloves. Eugenol is known for its various uses, including as an antiseptic to prevent infections, a natural pain reliever, and an anti-inflammatory agent that helps reduce inflammation. It is also used as a natural flavoring and food preservative. In the field of health and wellness, eugenol is utilized in aromatherapy for its relaxing effects. Additionally, it is an important ingredient in the production of cosmetics and perfumes due to its distinctive aroma, and it is currently being studied for its potential as an anticancer agent. Through this activity, it is hoped that students will gain a deeper understanding of the role of chemical compounds in everyday life and become more aware of the importance of using natural substances wisely.
